About Us

Carlos Álvarez-Aranyos

American Opposition is a non-profit, non-connected political action committee created to counter the rise of fascism in the United States of America.

It focuses on building strategic communications and community engagement campaigns in support of American democracy.

It was founded by Carlos Álvarez-Aranyos, a globally-renowned strategic communications professional who oversaw strategic communications efforts for the most covered political non-profits in the nation in both the 2020 and 2024 presidential election cycles.

In 2024, he served as co-founder and chief communications officer for The American Sunlight Project, a bipartisan effort to counter the threat of disinformation to American democracy.

In 2020, he oversaw Protect Democracy’s organization-wide communications, media relations, and strategic communications campaign to protect the 2020 election. That campaign included high-profile initiatives to protect the 2020 election from manipulation, secure the presidential transition, support impeachment efforts, establish a national accountability framework, reform the filibuster, and form a January 6th commission. He also directed strategic communications for multiple high-profile litigation efforts, including Wall of Moms/Don’t Shoot Portland v. Wolf, Denson v. Donald J. Trump for President, Community Success Initiative v. Moore, and Cervini v. Cisneros/Stapp.

Beyond his election year efforts, Carlos has provided strategic communications counsel to a broad range of clients, including the U.S. Department of Defense, HSBC, the Yacht Club de Monaco, and the California Federal Public Defender’s Office.

Earlier in his career, Carlos published the Listín Diario (www.listin.com.do) — the largest newspaper in the Caribbean region — on the Internet, and wrote and produced feature films.

Beyond his work in strategic communications, Carlos built Boulder Transport from a $7,000 investment into one of the most respected ground and air transportation providers in Colorado.

He is an avid adventurer, motorcyclist, mandolinist, boxer, divemaster, and cook.

Team

The American Opposition team is composed of a talented set of volunteers who provide support across all areas of our operations. For security reasons, the team’s identity is kept secret with the exception of Tim Boivin, who heads our media relations efforts and serves as a key leader in our organizing and outreach efforts.

While their identities are secret, their results are not: We managed to launch and help sustain the largest protest and boycott movement in American history with extremely limited resources because of their tireless efforts.

Beyond our core team, we work with a broad set of trusted organizers, coalitions, partners, and influencers to deliver our actions.
