Next Steps
Dear American Opposition:
On February 5th and again on February 17th, we stood together in cities across the country to send a powerful message: We will not allow fascism to take root in the United States. American Opposition, along with 50501 and organizers across the nation, mobilized millions and created a national movement to defeat fascism.
The fight ahead will require sustained effort, strategic action, and a relentless commitment to the truth. Today, we’re announcing our next steps to empower the Opposition.
Our work will focus on three key areas:
1. Empowering People
The most powerful force against authoritarianism is an engaged and organized public. That’s why we are developing the American Opposition App, a digital hub designed to help Americans maximize their contributions to the resistance in their own communities.
Organize locally: Find events, meetings, and actions near you.
Take direct action: Receive alerts about key moments when your voice can make an impact, including opportunities for direct lobbying through outreach and targeted protests.
Connect with allies: Build networks with like-minded Americans who are ready to fight back.
This app will be a game-changer for grassroots organizing, putting real power in your hands. It won’t hold any personal information — it will just ask for a ZIP code, but it will empower every American to maximize their contribution to the Opposition.
2. Pressuring Government
The only way to weaken Trump’s grip on power is by shifting votes where it matters most. We are launching an aggressive lobbying effort targeting five Republican senators and ten Republican House members who are most likely to break ranks and vote against Trump’s agenda.
Strategic lobbying: We will coordinate direct lobbying efforts to pressure these key legislators.
Public accountability: We will mobilize their constituents to demand action.
Coalition building: We will work with other groups to ensure a unified front.
By applying sustained pressure on the most persuadable Republican lawmakers, we can begin to fracture Trump’s hold on Congress and slow his authoritarian advance.
3. Communicating and Normalizing Trump’s Failures
Trump thrives on misinformation, but facts remain our greatest weapon. That’s why we’re launching the Trump Scorecard, a national digital billboard campaign that will expose the truth about his presidency in real time.
Tracking prices & economic indicators: Grocery and gas prices, employment, inflation, wages, and other key economic indicators will be displayed and compared to the day Trump took office. The layout will be simple, with red and green numbers sitting side by side for all Americans to see.
Exposing broken promises: We will highlight his failures on jobs, healthcare, and national security by comparing his specific promises to the realities we’re facing.
Countering disinformation: By controlling the narrative with facts, we will make it impossible for Trump to use his preferred communications tactic: Manufacturing “success” by repeating lies about his performance and claiming credit for the successes of others.
This campaign will ensure that all Americans see, every day, the reality of Trump’s leadership — right in their own communities.
